Tuarea Poihi (born 1851) is the Poihi whanau tupuna originating from Awaroa River, Ngati Kiriwai, Maniapoto Iwi in Kawhia. Forced to relocate, the whanau integrated with Ngati Waenganui whanaunga when Tuarea married into the hapu.
Ancestral whenua and home of the Poihi whanau tupuna, dating back to arrival of the Tainui waka. The whenua is located on the banks of the Awaroa River at the north eastern side of Kawhia Harbour - in the area of Hauturu, in the Otorohanga District, Waikato region.
Ancestral whenua located on the foothills of Maungatautari Maunga in Parawera - in the Waipa District, Waikato region. The land was vested to the Poihi whanau siblings and to Ngarete Hokkikau Heta (wife of Tangiariki Poihi) in 1941 when the hapu lands of Ngati Waenganui were partitioned by the Native Land Court.
